Last school year I asked if it would be possible for me to review the Rock ‘N Learn Phonics Volume 1 DVD after finding out that my son was struggling to learn his letter sounds. I really encourage to read that post, so that you can learn a little more about the situation with Eph and see his improvement as reported by his instructor.

After using the Phonics V.1 DVD, I was given the chance to review the Phonics Volume 2 DVD. The Phonics 2 DVD builds on the skills taught in the first DVD such as long vowels, controlled vowels, diphthongs, the schwa sound, syllables, ending sounds, and more.

We have had this DVD for quite awhile now. When we first got it early in the year, Eph was still struggling with his phonics lessons, reading and letters. We tried the Phonics 2 DVD on several occasions and he just wasn’t interested, not because it isn’t a great tool but because he just wasn’t academically ready for it yet.

Eph is only reading at a 3-4 level and it is a struggle although I have seen great improvement within the last 4 weeks.  Many of his books are starting the have a lot of the more advanced level phonics skills in them. I have no doubt that within the next few weeks this DVD is going to give him the same boost that the Phonics 1 DVD did. I just have to reintroduce it at the right time.

You can totally see in this video he is a tad distracted and is having to work hard at getting the answers right but he is having a great time. That is what I love so much about the Rock N’ Learn DVD’s – your kids don’t even know that they are learning. For a kid like Eph, the he can use all his senses to work on learning the information.
