As part of my “make it magical” Christmas traditions, we also have Santa’s reindeer leave a little gift for for the kids. This will really be the first year that Lu has gotten her own little surprise but I am sure she will love it.
We started the tradition with a bell (yes, like in the Polar Express movie). Eph was so excited to find the bell in the grass near some half eaten carrots and oatmeal. He carried it around for weeks and told everyone about it. I thought the “thrill” would leave after time and he bell would be just a part of the normal Christmas decorations but around November he decided that he had to give it back to Santa.
He brought it to the Santa in the mall and he told Eph to keep it. Not convinced, he then drew a picture and put it outside with the reindeer food. Santa of course thought that was the sweetest gesture and returned the bell with a note that he had gotten a replacement and Eph could keep that one and had a little toy reindeer along with it. Thus the tradition began.
Reindeer are not a popular Christmas item [like one might think] so finding smaller reindeer toys and items can be a little tricky. I have been trying to think of something fun for this year’s gift for Lu. I think they may need to have combined gifts from now on. Or atleast until Eph finds out that it is all mommy magic.
Do you have a reindeer tradition?
