This morning during the hustle bustle of our daily routine, I caught Eph and Lu in the most adorable brother-sister moment. As I passed the the bathroom, I heard Eph say, “Lu, say ahhh.” As I peered around the corner I caught this most precious moment…
After I uploaded the video I realized that this would be a perfect post for the National Children’s Dental Health Month (even though it is ending.) Each February, the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children’s Dental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of oral health.
Dental Health is one of those areas that we try hard to excel but I always feel like I have failed. Poor little Eph has already had a mouth full of cavities. Our dentist assures me that it has more to do with genetics than hygiene but still, I want to make sure that both of my kids have beautiful healthy teeth and gums.
We see our dentist every 6 months for a full check up and cleaning. We also have a pretty good routine for teeth brushing that includes a pre-rinse to show where we need to brush, brushing with the right sized toothbrush and then a fluoride rinse. I allow both the kids to brush themselves first and then I go back in and “check” to make sure they got all the cavity critters out.
The website for National Children’s Dental Health Month has some excellent activity sheets (in both English & Spanish) that you can use with your children to talk about dental hygiene.
