Today was national Read Across America day. Reading is a huge part of our lives and I absolutely can’t control myself when it comes to buying children’s books. I try my best to purchase books at yard sales, used book stores or through my son’s Scholastic book orders at school (teacher gets free supplies/books for the class) and when my kids are all grown up and moved on to finer literature, I plan to donate the ones that have survived all the “love” to our local children’s hospital.
While I would love to tell you that our favorite books are the classics, I usually find that my son chooses a Lego book or Sponge Bob book as his evening choices. Of course we have read all the classic fairytales but when given the option he always chooses the commercially promoted books. Which is fine, the most important thing is that he is reading.
Lu’s favorite books are the ones that have bright colors and animals in them. She also has a fondness for Dora the Explorer and Elmo. She keeps two books in her crib and I often find her reading in her bed with her feet propped up. She “babbles” her stories to her self and slowly her literacy skills are emerging.
There are so many wonderful children’s books being published today and it makes me wonder what my readers favorite authors and titles might be? Here is a list of our favorite reads right now! I would love for you to share yours too.
