My son collects tons of papers throughout his school day, in our house or at is Y program. Normally, he has a backpack full of his “letters” and pictures. Most of which, after a quick look over, end up in the recycle bin.
This past Monday morning, in the hustle and bustle, I was trying to clean out his backpack before school. I piled a whole bunch of papers on the table. Inside one of his side pockets was a folded up paper. Thinking nothing of it, I grabbed the entire pile and was heading towards the recycle bin when my son grabbed my arm and yelled “wait!” Irritated because I thought there was nothing in the pile worth keeping, I pulled back and sharply said “what?”
He grabbed for that tiny little folded up square on top and said, “This notes for you mommy” and began to unfold it. He held it up to me and it simply said, “I love you mom.”
It was my first love note from my son. The first time he had independently written me something, without any assistance, out of his own heart and I had almost missed it. I am so very thankful that I didn’t just plow ahead with what I was doing at that moment and it taught me a valuable lesson that what may not look important, often is worth more than all the gold in the world.
Here is my almost (but thankfully not) missable moment…
And here is another one from today…
“I love you mom because I love you so much” |
Oh what a joy he is! I am so grateful for his loving heart, his adorable smile and is undeserved love. I can’t imagine my world with him.
