I am so excited to tell you about the nonprofit organization BeadforLife. It is an amazing organization that helps to empower women in Uganda by providing them with vocational training, affordable housing and business education.
“The women and men in Kampala and Iganga make beautiful handcrafted paper beads from brightly colored recycled paper and turn them into necklaces, bracelets and earrings. While the farmers in Otuke collect the finest quality shea nuts which they sell to BeadforLife. The shea nuts get pressed into Shea Butter Soap and Peppermint Lip Balm.” (website)
For this review I was sent a gorgeous sky blue recycled paper bracelet. These hand-crafted beads are extremely unique. I passed it around at work and no one could believe that they are actually made out of paper. I highly encourage you to watch this fascinating video on how the beads are made. All of the jewelry is very affordable with bracelets and other items starting at only $5.00. What a wonderful and inexpensive gift for yourself or a loved one!
Individual items can be purchased from the BeadforLife online store but the best way to support the organization is by hosting a BeadforLife bead party. BeadforLife parties are simple and easy to host. All the materials and directions are provided at no cost to you and by hosting a party you are providing other women in your community to give back while purchasing these beautiful and unique pieces.
