Party Praise: Hexbug Nano Halloween Party!

October 31, 2011 By Melanie

This past weekend we hosted a Hexbug Nano Halloween Mommie Party! Honestly, I had never heard of Hexbugs before I signed up for the party but I had no doubt that my son (and his friends) would L-O-V-E them. From the moment that the party box arrived my son literally begged to get into them. I had to hide them in the garage until this past Thursday to make sure the bugs weren’t let loose before the party.

On Friday, we had some friends come over with their two boys so we had a mini-pre-party. The Hexbugs were a hit from the moment we opened the tubes. All 4 boys (ages 4 to 9) worked to build a monster habitat. None of them had ever played with Hexbugs before so they were all enthralled for about 3 hours. We had to put the little Nano’s “asleep.” I highly suspect them to find a Hexbug Nano in their stockings.

Saturday was the BIG day. The official Hexbug Halloween Party. The hourly countdown was so painful for Eph that I actually had to set an alarm so he would stop asking me “is it time?” over and over.  I had invited 12 kids to the party and all but 2 came with their parents. The kids ran in and from moment (second?) one, they did not stop. Initially there was some battling over habitat pieces but one the initial thrill was over, the kids settled in and started working together. They built some really cool multilevel habitats.

I really appreciated having an “older” (age 10) boy an eager Mom to help make suggestions. I passed out all 10 of the Zombie Halloween Hexbugs and 6 of the glow in the dark bugs. There wasn’t a child in the group that didn’t have a blast from the little ones (age 3) to the big ones. Since our party was in the day time, I let the kids go by pairs into the bath room and watch the bugs “glow.”

Here is a great slide show of our entire party:

Beyond the mega fun that we had just playing with the Hexbugs, we also had some delicious bug themed snacks and enjoyed a game of Mummy outside in the field. We even added a party partaker from the playground.  He was thrilled when Eph ran out and gave him a Hexbug to take home.

I think my favorite part of the party is when one of my Mommy friends was walking out the door telling her two boys, “now, don’t tell Daddy about these bugs and tonight when he is sitting on the couch, we will just set them loose all over.” Ha Ha! I would have loved to be a fly in the room.

None of our parties would be the same with a few videos. I uploaded a couple to the Sunshine Praises YouTube page but here is one of some general party mayhem:

The Hexbug Halloween Party was a rousing success.  Every kid and parent loved them and I have no doubt they just moved up to the top of many Christmas lists. Each kid received their own Zombie Nano & and an Original Nano to take home.

Are you intrigued? You can buy Hexbugs on their website or at most major retailers as well as online. Check out their Facebook pages for great product information and follow them on Twitter.

After an entire weekend of Hexbug fun, as we were settling into bed tonight, Eph asked with searching eyes, “Mom, do you think they will ever send me more Hexbugs to play with?” This party and review was probably one of our top favorite  to date! Thanks Mommy Parties for making this possible.
