It is no secret that we experience some learning struggles in our home. With Eph’s ADHD and sensory difficulties, traditional learning does not always meet his needs. He is far more apt to actually learn, retain and apply the information when it is presented to him both using both an auditory and tactile approach. 


I was a little surprised this year to find out that math was going to be as much of a struggle as has been. He is perfectly capable of doing the work in a 1:1 situation but when the instructions are provided in a group setting he misses at least half of the answers.  I have expressed my concern to the teacher and she is suggesting that we do more practice at home. 


When we first received the Carlito C. Caterpillar’s Math House Games, I was a little perplexed by the program.  Just by looking at the activities you don’t immediately see the complexity of the program. The program is devised to build early math skills based on abstract play and steps. It creates real world application to the basic foundations needed to develop advanced Math skills.


There are 3 sections in the math cards; quantity, numeration and operations. Each section starts with most basic of activities and builds up in a variety of steps. You can print manipulatives to use with the activities as well as use basic household items such as fruit, veggies, cereal.

Eph immediately took to the activities that I set up for him. Once he figured out the game, he had a blast and even told me to, “let me do it myself.” So he started writing out his own numbers and symbols. I am planning on going back and working on some of the foundational aspects of the program.

Overall I am very impressed with the Carlito C Caterpillars Math House Games program. I think it is an excellent tool to use as a foundation builder for math skills.

    My 6-year old granddaughter, Lacey, also has ADHD, and I keep her after school so her mom can work. I’m responsible for the homework, bathtime, eating, etc. Getting Lacey to do her homework is a struggle. We have a battle each and every day and I’ve tried everything I knew of to make it fun and entertaining, yet educational. Maybe this is just what I need. What a joy it would be to find something to make our homework time easier. And fun.
