This review is brought to you by my dear friend and theater addict, Julie! Julie is a the mom of two great boys, an interpreter (like me) and this is her first movie review!
Since the beginning of summer when my boys first saw the movie trailer for Real Steel they were hyped and ready to see it. After all, it is a movie with robots, boxing and Steven Spielberg as an executive producer. What fist-pumping chest-beating male wouldn’t like that? (Don’t worry ladies, I promise that this movie is for you as well).
Can you imagine a movie that incorporates the classics; Rocky, Transformers and Mattel’s Rock’em Sock’em Robots game? Well, it works! Real Steel opens this weekend and my recommendation is Go See It!! It stars Hugh Jackman and a very talented young actor named Dakota Goyo. We will be seeing much more of this talented young actor in the future.
Set in the not so distant future, Steel takes humans out of the boxing ring and replaces them with high tech robots. We see Charlie Kenton, an ex-boxer, struggling promoter and absentee parent who is suddenly faced with his son, Max Kenton, who has recently lost his mother. The two happen across a small sparring robot named ATOM in a scrap yard. Together these three underdogs help a man reconcile his past, a boy find his future, and a little robot proves that against insurmountable odds with enough determination anything is possible.
Real Steel has a little bit of everything for everyone; action, laughs, and a hint of romance. At the finish of the film my youngest was jumping up and down like a triumphant Rocky Balboa as the audience cheered and applauded. We all give this movie thumbs up and recommend it to anyone who wants an action packed fun, feel good movie.
