I have loved books for as long as I can remember. My mom and I would snuggle up in her bed with our little piles of books and read until we fell asleep. I developed a hunger for the imaginary worlds books allowed me to travel to and I read with a ferocity of a hungry lion.
I had favorite books like Behind the Attic Wall by Sylvia Cassedy or the Sweet Valley High series. I could spend hours and hours in the book store or school library trying to decide with book I would read next. Books have and always will be a huge part of my life.
This evening, I was laying in bed with Lu, reading Penguin by Polly Dunbar. She was pointing out all the “P’s” as she came across them. She laughed at the right spots of the story and when we were done, she “read” the story back to me.
As I was leaving her room, I caught her pulling out a hidden book from under her pillow and shifting herself so she could read it in the dim of her night light. She has caught the book bug and I can’t wait to share the journey with her.
Giving thanks tonight for great children’s writers like Dr. Seuss, Mo Willems (my current favorite), Eric Carle, and the many other’s who make reading a passion that just continues to grow.

I love reading too, but it wasn’t until college that my love of books came about. I learned to love books in my Teaching Literacy to Children Class. Eric Carle is one of my favs too!
