Praise & Giveaway: Rewarding Kids Responsibility Kit

November 9, 2011 By Melanie

Let me start out this post by saying that I am the worlds worst parent when it comes to creating and sticking to behavior charts.  Even when the private psychologist suggested that ADHD kids (like Eph) are highly motivated by charts, I still could not bring myself to actually follow through with a chart. The funny thing is, that he actually LOVES charts, stickers and rewards. He has them for school and he completely understands the concept.

When I was offered the opportunity to review the Rewarding Kids Responsibility Kit by Creative Changes, I was truly excited. I thought, “finally” a reward system that I don’t have to create, cut or design. This is exactly what I need.

The kit includes the following items:

  • (1) Creative Organizer Chart with phone message area and tear away shopping list.
  • (1) Family Job Chart
  • (2) Child’s Job Charts
  • (2) Create-a-Charts
  • (1) Teaching Children Responsibility Workbook: 15 pages of work charts, job cards, system cards, checklists, incentives and rewards, ideas for organizing bedrooms and more! Teaches good work habits for children of all ages.
  • (3) Magnets, Static Cling Reusable Rainbow Stickers
  • (1) Set of Reuseable Job Stickers (Includes 16 different household jobs)
  • (3)Wipe-Off Crayons
  • (1) Marker Holder.

Eph was super excited to set up the kit. We took it out, reviewed the various chores and decided that we would try the Child’s Job Chart and the Create a Job Chart. This is Eph’s first consistent attempt at responsibility. We have never had chores, of any sort. Which is a big fail on my part. It just always seems easier to do it myself than to have one of the kids do it.  Needless to say, it is time for the kids to start showing some responsibility for themselves.

Here is a video of Eph describing the chores on his chart.

I have seen a great improvement in Eph’s interest in daily responsibilities since we started using the Responsibility Kit. There are still so many more aspects to the kit that we haven’t started using. I plan on introducing the Job Cards next and adding responsibilities such as sweeping the patio, taking the trash out, setting the table and putting the dishes away. There are so many great ideas in the workbook that comes in the kit. Since Lu turns three this Sunday, it is a great time to start introducing her to a couple of chores as well. Overall I am extremely pleased with the Creative Changes Responsibility Kit. This is just what my family needs to start teaching responsibility to our children.

I have a child with ADHD and she loves charts-how much help this would be-we need all the incentives that we can get and it would help me that it is reusable

I love the fact that the charts are reusable. I hate having to print different chores charts each week.

My child’s most difficult chore would be putting clothes away.

My kiddos most difficult chore is laundry. He doesn’t like to leave his dirty clothes on the floor rather than the hamper and if I send him off to put clothes into his dresser he ends up putting them somewhere else.
