Several years ago, when my friend Shalene started running, I told her adamantly that I would absolutely never ever become a runner. I also gave her list after list about my knee injuries and other ailments that would prevent me from running. I honestly don’t remember what she said in return but this past weekend she got to personally make me eat my words as we embarked on a not so quick 6.2 trek together.
Here we are looking all cute and sassy before our race:
Now, it has been awhile since done much more than a 5k but with the Relay Around Columbus quickly approaching, I signed up for the 10k to get a good idea of my pace and time. Sunday’s weather was just PERFECT. A nice breeze, the sun was shining and the path runs along the beautiful Hoover Reservoir.
The first 3 miles were perfect. Nice pace, good great company, then after a beautiful run across the dam we were greeted with a one mile UP HILL climb on the side of a very busy road. It was a death trap. Really, I am surprised that we lived. By the time we reached the 4 mile marker I was about spent, I was having a hot flash (is that TMI?) and I really just wanted to quit. Which is really just a wish at that point because it’s not like my fairy god-mother was going to pop down and tell me to click my heels 3x and wish I was at home.
Needless to say, my perky happy cheerleader Shalene encouraged me until the end and we I survived. It wasn’t pretty but it felt good! Once again I am thankful for good friends who keep me moving forward.
Here we are at the end of the race:
[Shalene is from out of town and was here for a meeting but I think she decided to run this race with me because she has secretly always wanted to appear on my blog. :)]

Run Happy!

I don’t run bc I have a bad knee. What did you do to help your knees? I like to hike (easy mountains) but sometimes my husband takes me on death traps too. 🙂 Did you ever come up with a name for your running group?
