Run Happy: Don’t Stop Blinging at the Oktoberfest

October 5, 2012 By Melanie

It’s fall! Its running season and I have decided that unless their is “bling” or a good charity I’m not running. As I was planning my fall race list, I decided that the Oktoberfest Mieler Vier was the perfect 2nd race. Let’s just say that they had me at cream puff.

This race was held at the Ohio State Fairgrounds and it was not exactly a “pretty” run. To be honest, it was pretty ugly. We ran around the empty fair grounds, past closed concession stands and through some pimped up cows. No really, there were a lot of cows. There must have been a cow show that weekend. On our second loop, I had to laugh because the people who owned the cows (do you call them cow boys?) had actually brought out their metal lawn chairs and had lined up to watch us like some bizarre parade. They must have thought we were a group of 500 nuts just running in circles in a completely dead fair grounds.

Regardless. I had convinced Christine that we were gonna reduce our 10k pace by a minute and finish the 4 miles in less than 44 minutes.  I was hoping the thrill of the chase would help motivate us. We positioned ourselves just behind the 44 minute pacers and did our best to keep up with them.

The weather was perfect, the track flat and we were undoubtedly motivated by smell of bratwurst, cream puffs and funnel cake. As we neared the end of the 4 miles, we were able to pass the pacers and finish in record time!

Time 43:30 Pace 10:53
Blinging it!

And then we were treated with free Cream Puffs and German Polka music!

I also ate this splendidly delicious potato cake! Which is definitely not on my diet but was completely worth it. See that sour cream? YUMMY!
