One of the best gifts you can give your child is the gift of literacy. Having been a teacher of special needs deaf kids, teaching reading was one of the most challenging aspects of my job. However, with my own children, I am blessed to see their love of books and early literacy skills blossom every day.
Since they were little we have had shelves full of board books and regular books. Reading is part of our daily rituals and there are many books that my kids have had “memorized” since they were very little.
When Eph was in preschool, we started bringing home the monthly book order forms. He has always been attracted to science and nature books. From weather to dinosaurs, he has a large variety of non-fiction books. One of our favorite brands has always been the National Geographic Kids books. That is why it was an easy decision to review the National Geographic Kids Reading Program.
For this review we were sent the Super Readers kit full of books, posters, stickers and other fun reading incentives. We also took time to visit the Super Readers website to meet all the super reader characters, watch the videos and take the quizzes. The website is easy to navigate and safe for your little ones. (Of course you never want to leave a child unintended with the internet, who knows what they might find.)
After we checked out the video, Eph was excited to find all his National Geographic books and mark off the ones that he already had. He actually has quite a few and we will be definitely getting more in the future. I have also started looking for the younger age books for Lu. They have some really cute ones on ponies, penguins and other baby animals I think she would devour. She surly finds them less “yucky” than the sharks, spiders and bats. All the NG books are labeled according to reading level to help pick the right developmental level for your kids.
If you haven’t done so already, I highly encourage you to check out the National Geographic Kids site, sign up for Super Readers and start enjoying all the program benefits today! You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter!

I hope my daughter loves books as much as I do. This sounds like a great product to get to make it fun for her.
