I love holidays. I love the mystery and magic that they bring and I love the traditions that my family has had for many years. As a Christian I am not blind to the fact that many of my fellow believers feel that the Easter Bunny and Santa are sacrilegious and choose not to participate in those “type of things.” However, I know that my children can have both. They can know the true meaning behind Easter and they can enjoy believing that a little bunny brings a basket full of goodies on Easter morning.
When I was little, my mom and I would dye eggs and leave them in the refrigerator for the Easter Bunny to hide. I would get a different Easter basket each year and every basket would have some kind of a stuffed bunny and a chocolate bunny. Along with an assortment of other candies. I have fond memories of re-hiding eggs with my cousins for hours upon hours during Easter dinner.
Once my little ones were born, I decided to continue some of my childhood traditions and create a few new ones of my own. When Eph was just one, I purchased him his own basket and had embroidered with his name on it. On Easter eve, we sit out the empty basket for the bunny to come fill. This is great because then we don’t end up with years worth of baskets in the garage. He and I would die eggs for fun but the bunny hides plastic eggs that are filled with candy. This cuts down on the need to put candy in his basket. Oh and I tend to over do it on the eggs. I like it too look like it just rained eggs everywhere. I think I put 100 out every year.
Once Lu joined the family, her egg allergy made us change up our routine a bit. No more dying eggs. Even boiling them makes her a bit wheezy. Instead now we make Resurrection Rolls and we have a set of Resurrection Eggs that the kids can play with leading up to Easter morning.
Lu has yet to get her own personalized Easter basket. I have been wanting to buy one for her but just hadn’t found the right one. Although I really do like this one from the kids Easter selection at Personalized Creations.
One of the other traditions I have, is that our Easter baskets now contain a bathing suit and pair of flip flops instead of that traditional stuffed bunny. Those are two items that all kids need come spring time. I usually will put in a kite too. The kids love to play with their kites on a brisk spring day.

I love your traditions! We do an Easter Egg hunt every year. This year, we’ll be dying eggs because I won eco-friendly safe dye. Woohoo! This will be the first year that I purchase an Easter basket for Baby C. The past 2 years, her grandparents have spoiled her, but I’m excited to get her one myself, now that she can have a little more fun with it. I love that your family knows both the religious side and the “fun” side of Easter. I’m the same way.
