Oh Disney! You have done it again! You have created yet another timeless and charming children’s movie that even the grownups will want to watch over and over again. With the same level of detailed cuteness as CARS, we are now introduced to an entire new cast of flying characters in the delightful new movie PLANES!
Children everywhere are going to go wild for the underdog crop duster named Dusty as he embarks on a quest to prove that even a place with a fear of heights can accomplish great feats!
We were lucky to see PLANES early last week. My son was a die hard CARS fan since he was about 3 years old. I think we saw both of the CARS movies about 1000 times when they first came out on video. I wasn’t sure if he was going to think that PLANES was “babyish” or not. However, when I told him we were going to see the movie, he got a huge smile across his face.
Even though PLANES “looks like” CARS, the movies are completely different. The story starts with a little crop duster with big dreams named Dusty. Dusty wants to qualify for the race around the world and once he does, the story twists and turns like a jet plane going through basic training. There are a ton of great characters in the movie including Dusty’s mentor the Skipper and his best buddy Chug. Both of those guys will remind you of characters from the original CARS series but don’t worry, PLANES is a movie all unto itself. The story has little nuances that are reminiscent of Lightening, Mater and the bunch but the story lines are different enough to keep you cheering for Dusty. You will hold your breath in suspense, laugh out load to the hysterical cast (especially El Chupacabra and his romantic ways) and you might even shed a tear or two.
I don’t want to give to much away. Let’s just say that PLANES is the perfect mix of keep you on your toes suspense and gotta love the underdog heart. You will be rooting for Dusty all the way!
PLANES is in theaters now!

My 4 1/2 year old has been asking to go to the movies recently and I wasn’t sure if PLANES would be a good choice for us to see this week or if it would be a let-down. I’m so glad I stumbled on your review! I was worried it would be too much like CARS and we’d get bored! Now I’m excited to go see it!

I can’t wait to take my daughter to her first Disney movie. She was a little young for Planes. But I think the next “big” movie to come out will probably be it!

My son has loved Cars since he was two. I’m happy to hear it’s not a remake of Cars.
