I am a huge fan of Angie Smith. Her book I Will Carry You is one of the books I recommend most of the Mom’s in my infertility group, especially those who have experienced a loss. If you are not familiar with her story, I highly encourage you to grab the tissues and head over to her blog.
Just this month Angie published her very first children’s book. A beautiful tribute to her daughter and the perfect book for speaking the truth into the littlest hearts. This is truly one of those books that will become a classic story for all Mom’s to share with their little ones when they feel insecure or imperfect.
About the book:
From best-selling women’s author Angie Smith (I Will Carry You, Mended) comes this sweet children’s book about a stuffed animal named Audrey Bunny who fears her imperfections make her unworthy of a little girl’s love. She’ll learn the truth soon enough, and young readers will learn that everyone is special and wonderfully made by God.
One of Lu’s most cherished lovies is a well worn floppy white bunny. She carries it everywhere and she made sure that Bun Bun was front and center when we read the story. Lu was very sad that Audrey Bunny wasn’t being chosen and thrilled when she finally made it to school. Lu also loved that Audrey was different and we had a great conversation about differences and insecurities. This book is the perfect way to talk about how sometimes we might make mistakes but that we are not a mistake. God made us perfect.
This is where I want to segue a bit with my review. God does pretty amazing things and sometimes he plops products into my lap that just speak to my heart in a certain way. I hope you will see how he worked here…
I truly believed this book was going to be “meant for me.” A little bit of healing for all the “marks” left on my soul for my babies in heaven. Only each time that Lu and I read it, a beautiful little red head with a enormous scar on her chest came to mind. She is one of the first “friends” that Lu made at church and she is the cutest, spunkiest little thing you have ever seen. She also has Turner’s Syndrome and has already had to undergo several open heart surgeries in her short 4 years here on earth. Her Mom is an amazing advocate for Congenital Heart Defect Awareness and a champion for the cause.
Every time I read this book, I thought about little Kiely and her scar. I thought about how sometimes she might feel like she is a “messed up, not so perfect” little girl and how difficult and heart breaking it must be for her Mom to help her to understand that in reality she is fearfully and wonderfully made, truly perfect in God’s image. That is when I realized that this book needed to be in the hands of this sweet little angel because it is the perfect book for any parent that has a child with visible (or invisible) scars. An amazing lesson for children that each of us is made unique in God’s eyes.
I haven’t had the chance to give Audrey Bunny to little Kiely yet, but I am looking forward to sharing it with her soon. I just know Audrey Bunny’s special message is meant for courageous little girls like her. If you have a minute, take a few minutes to read up on Congenital Heart Defects and children.
Just today Audrey Bunny made it to #1 on the Amazon Christian Children’s List!

I don’t have anyone in mind who needs this book right now. But I think it’s such a great book to have as a resource if my children are going through this or if they meet someone that is.

I would like to win this to show my son that every one is special and perfectly unique, just as God wants them to be. We struggle with this concept often with him.
