Two in One cloth diaper systems are fairly new to me. They probably had them in 2008 but I was clueless and only used pockets. I bought several of a similar brand before lil’ man arrived because I was in love with the patterns and I really liked the idea of the snap in inserts and multiple uses. Then I found out that EBF poop pretty much makes the reusable part of the two in one system cover useless. I have actually had my Best Bottoms packed away since he grew out of the small inserts because they just weren’t working for us and I was a bit disappointed. Now I am thinking I should get them back out and give them another whirl.
For this review I was sent the Buttons Diapers easy two in one system cover in Pebble with a daytime and nighttime insert. Although I am pretty certain they didn’t scour my blog, I was surprised to find that they sent me a gray colored diaper with a scarlet button on the back. I wonder if they are Buckeye fans. 🙂
So lets jump into my review:
Performance:
One of my favorite features of the Buttons Diaper is the double leg gussets which assure that all messes stay in the diaper. Plus there is a generous amount of elastic in both the top and back of the diaper allowing for a good seal. Which for us is of paramount importance, since we tend to have our blow-outs up the back. The Buttons Diaper held up well to pee and I had absolutely NO leaks. It was easy to snap out the insert and wipe the cover. We didn’t have any blow outs or leaks with poo but I would not have been able to reuse the cover due to the guessets being soiled.
Fit:
Little man is weighing in at a hefty 18.15lbs. He is only rolling over so the diapers don’t get a lot of movement testing (yet). I set the diaper on the medium rise with the large daytime insert and was able to get a very nice fit around his chubby legs. The night time insert is very bulky on Ezra but I am certain will be great when he grows a little longer. I just couldn’t get a good seal with the nighttime booster around the legs. I don’t consider that to be a big deal though. The top elastics allow for a easy adjustable fit around the waist.
Price:
The Buttons Diapers are very affordable. Covers come in nine color optionsand your choice of either small or large and day or night inserts. I like that the snaps in their inserts are compatible with the Best Bottoms brand and are a bit less expensive. This is a very affordable option for cloth diapering.
- Covers $11.00
- Regular Insesrt $3.50
- Nighttime Booster $5.00
Total diaper cost is only $14.50 if you bought one cover/insert and didn’t reuse. Which is extremely affordable but if you bought one cover and 3 inserts, you are looking at about $7.00 each. That is an unbelievable bargain for a high quality diaper.
Overall:
I am really impressed with the Buttons Diaper. I like the soft PUL cover. It doesn’t feel like crunchy plastic. It provides a great fit for little man without leaving marks and I didn’t have any leaks. I am looking forward to giving the nighttime insert a run for it’s money. It is super thick and I am sure with a stay dry liner on top would make it through the night. I love the 5 layer insert. It is very fluffy and extremely thirsty.
The one thing I would like to know from my friends who swear by these two in one systems is how do you use them out of the house when they are soiled? Do you just leave the insert in the cover and wait till you get home? I wish the inserts had a way to roll up or fold up and snap some how so that my wet bags don’t become covered in poo. There has to be a trick I am missing.

I want to say a special THANK YOU to the husband and wife team that own and operate Buttons Diapers. My review for them is a couple of weeks late because of Ez’s staph infection. We had actually been is sposies for a couple of weeks while trying to get a handle on the staph which made him look like a leper. The open sores were very unattractive and I didn’t want my pictures showing all his open wounds. Doesn’t make for great advertising. They were super GRACIOUS at allowing me extra time to complete the review.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
