Red Robin….

{Go ahead, I know you want to sing it…}

YUM!

Now that we have that out of the way. I am excited to let you know about Red Robin’s new interactive allergen menu. Just in time for National Allergy Awareness Month, Red Robin has taken the lead on providing the most innovative tool that I have ever seen in a restaurant. The Customizer Hub allows patrons to access their menu, check off any and all dietary restrictions and then place your order confidently.

Ever since Lu was a baby, we have known that she has significant food allergies. Since she was breastfed, I followed her same diet restrictions for almost a year. Now we also have little man with an egg nut allergy so I am back to following an elimination diet. Red Robin has always been one of our favorite restaurants particularly because of their exceptional service when it comes to food allergies.

Previously, when we were out at Red Robin, we would ask for the egg allergy menu and they would print a current sheet for us. Managers and staff and never even questioned the request. Which is unfortunately a very common experience for us. The nice thing about the new interactive menu is that you can pull it right up on your computer or smart phone and figure out what you wanted to eat.

Today, when we went in, we told the waitress that we needed the allergy menu. She surprised us by bring out the Red Robin Ipad and showing us how to use the new interactive menu. She was fantastic. My mother-in-law was eating with us and she has a dairy allergy so, I let her give the menu a whirl. Even though we had Iphones with us, it was a big plus that the restaurant has accessible Ipads. My MIL is not exactly tech savvy and I am not sure if she could pull up the menu on her phone.

The interactive menu is super easy to maneuver and offered to levels of allergy information. First, items that are “suitable” and then items that can be “modified.” This is absolutely wonderful because most place just have a big chart with an ‘X’ on the allergen but you aren’t sure if it is due to something easy like just asking for “no cheese” or something more complicated like the allergen being mixed in the product.

The Red Robin staff are trained to take orders for people with allergies. CeCe did a great job, confirming every item on our order to make sure there weren’t any mistakes. With three (Lu-egg, Me-egg/nut, MIL-dairy) people having specials orders, it could be a little annoying but she really showed care and concern.

The overall experience was exceptional. The only thing that I wish was an option would be to actually search for an item on the interactive menu. We wanted to order some appetizers and literally nothing was coming up on the list as suitable, even with modifications. So, I am not 100% sure if every item just isn’t loaded or if their guacamole really contains eggs. After going through it on the computer a few times, I am leaning towards the idea that the entire menu isn’t available.

RedRobin3

If you have allergies, know someone who does, or just want to give the menu a whirl, I highly encourage you to download the Red Robin app. On a side not, you can also calculate nutrition, so if you are counting calories, a similar interactive menu will help you determine your nutritional needs.

    This is great! I am breastfeeding a baby with food protein intolerances to several things (dairy, soy, egg, wheat, peanut) and haven’t been able to eat out in months because of it. I love that Red Robin has made it so easy to see what is safe and what is not.

      We are boob sisters! Both my kids (DD – Soy, Milk, Egg) and the new baby (egg/nuts) – So I totally feel for you. Even the old Red Robin menu was awesome. If you ever need to vent/chat. Feel free to send me an email. It was hard to find people that were supportive.

    I think this is both thoughtful and shrewd of Red Robin. So many people need to watch what they eat carefully, and they’re more likely to go somewhere where they can ascertain the ingredients.

    Great addition at Red Robin. It is so important to know what is in the food or may be around the food if you have allergies. I would feel more comfortable going out to eat knowing my allergies won’t be stirred.

    I love that Red Robin is helping people who suffer from allergies feel safe about the food they eat. Allergies are tough food allergies can sometimes be harder. You just never know what’s in it unless they say.
