Sometime in the fall of 1991, I began looking over brochures for colleges in Florida. While my classmates longed to go to the big named universities, I was perusing small local schools with good Education programs. My school counselor handed me a brochure for a small college in St. Augustine, Florida called Flagler.
From the moment I opened the scarlet folder with a huge lion on the front, I was in love. Even having grown up in Florida, I had never heard of St. Augustine or Flagler. I didn’t know about its rich history or amazing beaches. It only took one campus visit for me to know that the only place I wanted to attend school was Flagler College.
St. Augustine is a beautiful city. Abounding with culture, steeped in history and St. Augustine has some of the most stunning beaches in all of Florida. It is a hidden gem among the over built, over marketed cities. Yet it is only a short drive to many of the popular amusement parks if you wanted to fit in a day trip.
Considered the oldest city in the United States, St. Augustine offers both a rich educational experience and a relaxing beach vacation. You can spend your morning collecting shells, surfing or swimming in the ocean and your afternoons traipsing around 450 year old forts searching for Pirate booty.
It truly is the perfect vacation for people of every age. You can find something for the littlest baby, young child and pre-teen.
Over the next few days I will be bringing you a series of reviews from the various places that we visited, stayed and ate! Come and enjoy a virtual visit to Florida’s Historic Coast and then book your weekend away. I am certain that once you visit St. Augustine, it will be the only Florida beach you ever visit again.

I’ve been to St. Augustine once and it was to visit Flagler college. I was interested in attending for education, but my gpa wasn’t high enough. It is a beautiful college and town. I can’t wait to read all about your trip and all the activities. By the way, you look GREAT!
