Last summer, when little man was just a newborn, Julie from Spark of Amber reached out to me an offered one of her beautiful Baltic amber necklaces for review. She offered me either a child’s teething necklace or an adult item. Without really considering how little Ez was, I chose the teething necklace.
I had fully intended on putting it on Ez immediately and letting him wear it 24/7. However, when we first got it, I kind of chickened out. It seemed so big on his little neck and I worried incessantly about choking or strangulation. At that point I simply put it back in the pretty bag it came in and waited.
Fortunately, he has been a very late teether. He didn’t get his first 4 teeth until he was over 8 months and we are still waiting on the others. Now that he is sitting up and walking, I have begun to use the necklace on a daily basis. I do let him nap with it but I follow the recommended use and remove it at night. I also make sure to supervise him at all times.
The necklace is gorgeous. The necklace we received is similar to the Seashore and is a mix of light and dark color amber beads. Each necklace comes with a lab report showing that it is 100% Lithuanian amber. I am not sure why but I expected the necklace to be strung like pearls with a clasp or even on some type of elastic band. Instead they are individually tied and strung very tightly together. So much so, that you can barely even see the string and the clasp is actually two beads that screw together. I imagine it would be almost impossible for it broken and even if it was the beads would stay put on the string because of the individual knotting. Which really helps to put this Mama at ease.
Ez does not seem to even notice the necklace. I put it on. He leaves it. I have never caught him grabbing at it. Unlike his hearing aids which he leaves on for about a minute and a half before I find them in his mouth. I also have only noticed a few times where the beads have left markings on his neck and those are mostly done when he has been in his car seat.
Baltic amber is thought to provide relief from teething pain, inflammation and provide an overall calmness. I can’t honestly say that I have seen a huge difference in his temperament with or with out the the Spark of Amber necklace but he has a couple of teeth buds showing and hasn’t been excessively cranky. He also has not appeared to be in what I would consider typical teething discomfort. There is also less drool than normal. I am not sure if drool is part of the typical benefits of amber but I will take it. According to the directions, it is recommended that the necklace be worn close to the skin to allow for absorption of the natural amber oils.
Ez has gotten a constant stream of compliments on his Spark of Amber necklace and personally I love the way it looks. It truly is a beautiful piece. As a matter of fact, my oldest son has asked me several times if I can get him one because it looks so cool.
The Spark of Amber Baltic Amber necklace measures between 11 and 13 inches, is handmade and comes with a storage pouch. Necklaces should be stored in the pouch, away from other jewelry. You can purchase one these beautiful items for your little one or even one for yourself at www.sparkofamber.com. You can also follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

My daughter has been wearing an amber necklace since she was about 4 months old ( and she’s 27 months now). She is on he second necklace since the first got too small. We rarely took it off, but when we did and forgot to put it on, I did noticed she was more cranky.

We have used teething necklaces on both my girls, and they seem to work really well! Doesn’t hurt that they’re so cute either 🙂

We do not have a teething necklace yet. My son is about to be 4 months and I am starting to look into them. He also has horrible reflux and is constantly cranky. This would be so wonderful for my family!

I have one for my daughter and while I am not 100% sure it works, it doesn’t bother her and in fact, now that she is 2 she enjoys wearing it so we put it on her. I want to get an adult one and try it for myself and see if it works.

I have been wondering about these. I also think I would worry about it being a strangulation hazard!
