I don’t know how it escaped me but I totally forgot that I had planned to post our review on DisneyNature’s Monkey Kingdom for Earth Day yesterday. Lu and I were able to see a preview a few Saturday’s ago and loved every minute of it. Having seen some of the other DisneyNature movies (I love them all), I was a little worried that she might not be able to sit through the whole movie but I was completely wrong. She was 100% enthralled with the entire film.
Of course Monkey Kingdom is beautifully filmed. I fell in love with the scenic views of Southeast Asia and was fascinated with the cultural relationships of the monkey family. It truly is amazing to watch how these extremely smart animals maintain their social structure. Tina Fey’s narration really captured the “stories” behind each of the monkey families.
I can’t ignore the fact that these monkeys take attachment parenting to a whole new level. Baby wearing or should I say baby-clinging, breastfeeding, co-sleeping, these mama monkeys totally shared my heart for raising their children. The heroine, Maya, is the epitome of a good mother, doing everything she can to “win” her way to the top of the tree and give her son a better life.
I don’t want to ruin anything for you so, instead of telling you more about the movie, I am going to highly recommend you go see Monkey Kingdom this weekend. There are a few sad (think Lion King) moments and a tad bit of animal violence but if you feel your child can handle that aspect of nature, I would recommend it for any child who is able to sit through a “talking” movie.
Monkey Kingdom is now showing in theaters nationwide! Rated G!

I definitely want to see this! I am super pregnant and emotional (less than two weeks to go) so I’m afraid I’d be crying the whole time I watch it! I will have to check it out when it comes out on DVD!

Let me just start by saying, I love monkeys! They rock! I had no intention of seeing this as I’m not a fan of documentaries or Tina Fay, but I’m glad you enjoyed it!
