We celebrated Ezra’s 2nd birthday this past weekend with a construction themed birthday party. Digging in dirt and sand was a huge hit with the toddlers and it was super affordable. I am not the type to spend a fortune on printables and unnecessary decorations, so this really is a budget friendly birthday party.
We chose the colors common with CAT and Tonka trucks as well as construction, yellow, orange and black. These items made the bulk of my construction theme set up and I was able to order all of them through Amazon Prime.
- Yellow Construction Hats (1 DOZEN) – BULK
- Orange Plastic Traffic Cones (1 Dozen)
- Construction Sign Cutouts Party Accessory (1 count) (4/Pkg)
- Yellow Caution Tape
- Safety Fence, Orange, 4-Feet by 100-Feet
In addition to the construction items, I bought a handful of large sized construction trucks from garage sales. I was able to find 4 trucks in great condition and then I purchased a couple of packets of the small matchbox sized CAT trucks.
Other items we used were:
- 20 bags of soil
- 2 bags of sand for our sand table
- Small baby pool
- Large appliance box for “buildings”
- Bucket and shovels
We set up the play area in our drive way. We put down a huge tarp to make it easy for the kids to walk around without shoes and the tarp also made it easy to contain the dirt. We had piles of dirt on the ground, in the tables and in a pool. The kids had a blast filling the buckets, using the shovels and moving the dirt around.
We wrapped up Ez’s party by digging into a construction themed birthday cake and ice-cream.
