The Day a Video of My Son Went Viral

April 17, 2016 By Melanie

In May I will have been blogging for seven years and even though I have had a few articles go viral, I have not experienced anything like I did this past week when a video of my son Ezra went viral. A few weeks ago I posted a cute little video of my son giggling hysterical on my YouTube page. I had actually uploaded it with the intention of sharing it only on my personal FB page to make everything a little bit lighter for those who needed it.

Shortly after that I was contacted by a group in the UK that wanted to share Ezra’s video. Of course I jumped at the chance to share all of his crazy joy with someone else but I had no idea the extent to which the video would travel. Early Wednesday afternoon, I had a random Facebook friend request and a PM from a writer at Today.com that was asking me about “the video” of Ezra. After responding and setting up a time to talk, I did a quick Google search and found that Ez’s video had already been shared on PopSugar and several other sites.

Within 48 hours, Ezra’s video has hundreds of thousands of views and shares. There are over 3 pages of Google links and I can’t count the number of FB group shares that I have seen. The most amazing part of this whole thing is how many people Ezra’s sweet laugh and contagious joy has impacted. What a gift to be able to give the world, even if it was just for a few days.

Here is the YouTube video from my own site. It doesn’t have nearly the number of views because the viral version went out through Cater News.

Here are several of the popular links about the video:

  • DailyMail.Com – UK Site
  • PopSugar – 400 Shares 🙂
  • Elite Daily
  • The Sun UK – Love this one.
  • Huffington Post Online
  • NBC News – Favorite Story of the Day.

I love that each one of them has their own little take on the story. Now I just need to figure out how to preserve some of the stories for him when he is older. I am sure he will love knowing he was once the viral face of happy.

Have you ever been a part of a viral video? Feel free to share the link with me.

This is so sweet – definitely brightened up my day! You know, I see so many videos people make purposely trying for “viral” or “youtube sensation” (some are somewhat brilliant, some could be decent acting). This is pure and joyful. Congrats to him!
