I am not sure about you but one of the most bittersweet times in my life is when my baby turned ONE. It is so exciting to see them reach this amazing milestone but at the same time its hard to know your baby isn’t really your baby anymore. I felt like my first born’s first year flew by and now he is getting ready to turn nine.
Because we have struggled with infertility and had multiple losses, we weren’t 100% sure that we would have the wonderful opportunity to celebrate another first birthday. Then 4 years later, little Lulu came around and darn she the most adorable blessing we could have imagined. She also had severe food allergies so for her first birthday cake we had to have a specially made vegan cupcake. It was beautiful and I almost hated to watch her smash it but she did so with a zeal.
Isn’t she the cutest?
Oh and I am so blessed that I get to do it all again? Plus I am even more excited because little baby Ez has a summer birthday (our only summer baby) I can completely picture him sitting out on a beautiful blanket, wearing an adorable cloth diaper, sun shining on his face and the cutest little smash cake just begging to be devoured.
To make it even easier Betty Crocker, my favorite name in baking, has made it super easy to create your own adorable smash cake. They have a whole series of cakes on their website and Pinterest page with some great ideas on ways to include fruit, cereal and other kid friendly choices. Plus, most of these cakes are super easy that even a regular old Mom like me could make one. I am particularly fond of this easy to make blue sprinkle smash #1 cake. I am almost 99% certain I could make this.
You can find this cake and several more on their website and Pinterest page. There are so many wonderful, easy to bake choices that will make your baby’s first birthday absolutely smashing!
Did you child have a “Smash Cake” for his/her first birthday? What special memory can you share?
Disclosure: This is a compensated post written on behalf of Betty Crocker. All opinions are my own and don’t blame me if you get hungry after looking at these delicious cakes.

My oldest had a smash cake that came free along with the cake we ordered for the party guests. However, she had no interest in eating it, smashing it, or really even touching it! We’ll probably try it this coming year when her baby sister turns 1 and see what she does.

I gave my daughter the opportunity to smash a cupcake on her first birthday. She declined, choosing instead to eat said cupcake rather carefully. I am interested to see how my son reacts on his first birthday.
