My very first cloth diapers were white cotton covers and prefolds. They came in a bright yellow laundry bag and were dropped of on my door step. The great thing about these diapers is that the dirty ones just got thrown back in to the bag and put back out side. I was so petrified of laundry that the diaper service was a perfect way to get my feet wet.
Once I became comfortable with cloth diapers, I ventured out to pockets and my love of prefolds ended. Pefolds and covers are truly the most resonable and affordable way to cloth diaper. Plus, theymake a great addition to most cloth diaper stashes.
For this review ShoppingMOA.Com sent me their Real Nappies Top Up pack for crawlers (18-31lbs). The kit includes 2 Snug Wrap diaper covers with velcro closures and 6 100% indian cotton prefolds.
Performance:
This is a pretty simple system. Fold the diaper, put it in the cover, put the cover on the baby. The diaper was very absorbent and didn’t have any leaks. The prefold for the crawlers is very large and when folded down to fit him a little better, it was very bulky. However, I think the extra fold at the top gives more “boy” proofing, if you know what I mean.
Fit:
There are four sizing choices to this system. We chose the “crawler” which fits babies from 6-18 months and 18-31 lbs. Ezra is now about 20lbs so he is on the smaller side for this particular diaper. The prefold seems gigantic compared to other inserts that I have. It took me a few attempts at various folds to get small enough to fit in the cover. I almost considered using snappies but I wanted to try it the way the company suggests. The cover is large but I used was able to pull the velcro tight enough to get a snug fit around the legs. The diaper is big but we will definitely get a lot of use out of it. I can’t imagine him growing out of it anytime soon.
Price:
Simple white cover. Simple Indian cotton pre-folds. You really can’t get more affordable than this set up. The Top Up pack includes 6 prefolds/2 Covers for $39.99. Which basically works out to about $6.00 per diaper change. You really can’t get a better deal.
Overall:
The more I cloth diaper the more open I have become to using a variety of different styles. I have found myself grabbing for these while we are home. They are easy to use and very absorbent. Plus I don’t have to stuff anything. Since they are a little bit fluffier than my typical pockets or AIO/AI2’s, I don’t use them much with pants.
One of the other things that makes this product even better is their unique TWO child warranty. If the diaper fails or has any problems they will repair or replace it as long as your 2nd child is still in diapers. This does not include normal use and they do have some laundry recommendations that could otherwise violate the terms.
Buy:
Real Nappies come in 3 different size packs. Birth to Potty ($499.99), The Essentials ($99.00) and the Top Up (39.99). You can also purchase additional covers, prefolds and boosters.

These sound like an awesome deal! We love our prefolds and covers but we’re always looking for new options to try (I’m finding I like AI2’s better than our pockets, for sure!).

We used Real Nappies newborn covers with our girl and they were great, the hook and loop was nice and the covers were really gentle.

I purchased the Real Nappy Birth to Potty Kit and ended up having to use a different brand due to severe carpal tunnel (I can’t fold the diapers). I am using many of the diapers a burp cloths- they are great! – But was wondering if you know of any sites to sell or people looking to purchase the covers? TIA

Did you ever try Diaper Swappers or a local B/S/T site?
