Our family is defintely an outdoor kind of people. If the sun is shining then we are outside. And by outside family, I mean, running, disc golfing, swimming, parks, creek walks, soccer, biking, and the beach. Just name an outside activity and we will probably do it at least once during the warm Ohio months. As a matter of fact, right now, I am writing this post, while sitting on my front porch, watching the kids play in the playground – covered in sunscreen.
Personally, having grown up in South Florida where having a tan was pretty much the norm and the only bottle I brought to the beach was full of baby oil (I know, I know), I am super aware of long term effects that the sun has had on my skin. Now, when I am training for my running races or triathlons, I am always smearing on a coat of sunscreen. I don’t want to cause any more damage to skin that spent years (and years) exposed to the suns harmful rays.
Now, I am just going to be frank here, we are all friends right? I personally feel that not using sunscreen on your children is akin to letting your kids ride their bikes without helmets. Yet, I am constantly amazed when I see children at sporting events, the pool or even the park without the appropriate protection from the sun, clearly turning redder and redder by the minute.
Beyond just protecting my kids from the sun. I am also concerned with types of chemicals and products I use on my family. That is why I usually turn to the EWG Skin Deep Cosmetics Database to help me choose the right products for my kids. I was really pleased to see that Beyond Coastal is considered a products received “Champion Status” and almost all of their products have a “low risk” rating of 2. Now I am not only using products that provide the necessary sun protection but they are also chemically safe for my family as well.
Even though my kids are used to having their bodies smeared in sunscreen before leaving the house, I would not say it isn’t a struggle. However, I was very pleased with the products that Beyond Coastal sent me to try. Before heading out to Eph’s soccer game, I covered him with the Beyond Coastal Kids 30SPF lotion (2.5oz $11.95). The lotion went on smooth and just required me to rub it into his skin. I took this picture after our initial application. You can see the one side of his face has sunscreen, while the other does not. The sunscreen quickly soaks into the skin leaving no traces behind.
Here is another picture of Lu putting on sunscreen before going to “Beach Day” at her preschool.
So, I am sure you are wondering, “Do these products even work?” And the answer is a resounding YES! We have been using the Beyond Coastal products for all our outdoor activities (soccer, running, playing) for the past two weeks. My normally uber sensitive skin has not broken out from the Active Face Stick (.5oz $6.99). Lu gets a rash from almost everything and her skin has been fine. Plus, their products have provided complete sun protection. We haven’t had problems with burns or red spots.
Overall, I am completely satisfied with the Beyond Coastal Sun Care products and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for safe and effective sun protection. Beyond Coastal Products can be purchased on their website. Plus you can like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
Beyond Coastal is generously giving one of my readers this FANTASTIC product pack. This is a great selection for you to try.
