Tomorrow is my birthday. So it just makes sense to me to give thanks for my parents for the gift of life. My parents don’t speak. They haven’t spoken 10 times since their divorce in November of 1992. They both like to pretend that they don’t like each other, but the truth is, even after 19 years, they still care for one another. Just don’t let them know.
My Dad is a pretty cool guy. He has always been a hard worker and he instilled in me the same work ethic. When I was little and wanted to buy something, he would make me create a whole proposal. I would use poster board and newspaper ads and give him a presentation. He always believed in me and no matter what I did, I always knew he loved me and was proud. (Oh, that big kid in the picture? He is my 15 year old half brother.)
Obviously I wouldn’t be here with my Mom. She is a very unique woman. Slightly eccentric and extremely talkative. She is from the South Carolina and is amazing cook. No one can make gravy like she can. She has called me every year since I left home on my birthday at exactly 9:04am and tells my birth story. She is an amazing grandmother and my kids love her so much. If you read my blog you know she has stage 4 cancer. So it is a bitter sweet time in our lives.

We should all be thankful for our parents! 🙂 Hope things are going alright for your Mom, and that you are able to spend time with her these days.
