This past weekend we hosted a Hexbug Nano Halloween Mommie Party! Honestly, I had never heard of Hexbugs before I signed up for the party but I had no doubt that my son (and his friends) would L-O-V-E them. From the moment that the party box arrived my son literally begged to get into them. I had to hide them in the garage until this past Thursday to make sure the bugs weren’t let loose before the party.
On Friday, we had some friends come over with their two boys so we had a mini-pre-party. The Hexbugs were a hit from the moment we opened the tubes. All 4 boys (ages 4 to 9) worked to build a monster habitat. None of them had ever played with Hexbugs before so they were all enthralled for about 3 hours. We had to put the little Nano’s “asleep.” I highly suspect them to find a Hexbug Nano in their stockings.
Saturday was the BIG day. The official Hexbug Halloween Party. The hourly countdown was so painful for Eph that I actually had to set an alarm so he would stop asking me “is it time?” over and over. I had invited 12 kids to the party and all but 2 came with their parents. The kids ran in and from moment (second?) one, they did not stop. Initially there was some battling over habitat pieces but one the initial thrill was over, the kids settled in and started working together. They built some really cool multilevel habitats.
I really appreciated having an “older” (age 10) boy an eager Mom to help make suggestions. I passed out all 10 of the Zombie Halloween Hexbugs and 6 of the glow in the dark bugs. There wasn’t a child in the group that didn’t have a blast from the little ones (age 3) to the big ones. Since our party was in the day time, I let the kids go by pairs into the bath room and watch the bugs “glow.”
Here is a great slide show of our entire party:
