Each month our local YMCA has a Parent’s Night Out for kids ages 3 and up and ever since Eph was old enough (and potty trained) we have been taking him to “pizza night.” He loves it, and it is a great way for us to have low cost childcare. Originally, when Lu was a baby, the hubby and I had a mini date. She would sleep in her carrier, we would eat out somewhere fun, visit a book store, talk a walk, enjoy each other’s company.
Now that Lu is older, these Saturday nights have become more special. They have developed into her own personal date night with Mommy & Daddy where she gets our full attention, separate from her brother.
She revels in the attention. She holds both our hands and skips down the sidewalk, she laughs more, she talks more and she is simply more engaged with us. Occasionally we will pick a “Lu” activity but mostly we just take her out, eat dinner and she gets to enjoy being an only child for the night.
I really cherish our once a month Mommy, Daddy & Lu dates. It is such a blessing to be able to spend some alone time with her just like we did with Eph during those first 4 years. I wonder how things will change if we are ever blessed with another child.
If you have more than one child, do you have special dates out separate from their siblings? Any special traditions or activites? I would love to hear about them.

We don’t have more than one child. But we used to have the tradition of going out with Grandma and Pop Pop every Friday night for dinner. We recently moved away from them and miss them a lot!
