We found out that we were pregnant the last week of September. I was feeling pretty good. No pregnancy symptoms and I was able to follow my doctors orders to take one baby aspirin, a prenatal vitamin and extra folic acid without any problems. Well that was until, the dreaded 6 week marker when all of my past pregnancy nightmares came flooding back.
With both of my previous pregnancies, I suffered from extreme morning sickness which required IV hydration and medications. I remember my old boss telling me that when I finally gave birth to the baby, I would forget. Believe me, when you are that sick, for that long (almost 16 weeks), you never truly forget. The one thing that I can say, is that with each child I have learned some coping skills.
At about 6 weeks, I knew that this pregnancy was not going to be any different. The severe nausea had kicked in. Any smell, quick movement or sometimes even a thought could make me run to the sink. All I could do is eat mushy carbs and drink small amounts of pop. Let’s just say all those “very important” vitamins and medications weren’t not part of my daily routine.
When I was around 8 weeks along, I answered an company request to do a review of Premama Prenatal Drink Mix. The great thing about Premama vitamins is that they are different than the normal horse pills that are recommended.
Premama vitamins are a all natural, easy to digest, flavorless drink mix. Each daily serving can be taken either all at once or divided into two doses. Which is great if you can barely keep anything down. Premama contains all recommended vitamins as well as Biotin, B Vitamin, Omega-3, Conenzyme Q10, Choline, Ginger Root and Folic Acid.
For this review, I was sent a 30 day supply of Premama (a $25 value) to try. I have to be honest and admit that I was very hesitant to try them. I had gotten pretty used to my children’s gummy vitamins and have PTSD from trying to take anything else. The Premama vitamins sat on my review pile for a couple of weeks before I even attempted.
According to the included pamphlet, it is best to mix the vitamins with juice, fruit-flavored beverages, iced-teas, or milk. The first day I made a mistake and tried to take the whole packet at once with some orange juice. I was able to drink it but it was not a wonderful experience. I kind of felt like I had to force myself to drink it. It took a couple of attempts but I finally figured out that I could only take half the supplement at a time and prefer a sweet (not acidic) juice or fruit flavored drink. I also like it really really cold. So I would mix it and toss it back in the fridge.
Overall, I really liked the Premama Vitamin drink mix. It is an excellent alternative to regular prenatal vitamins. The fact that it is flavorless and can be mixed with almost any beverage makes it easier to tolerate. Especially if you can find the right time and right mix match for you.
Premama Vitamins can be purchased through their website. They have a special where you can save up to $9.00 per month by signing up for their monthly delivery subscription. You will also want to check out their Facebook page.
