Last month you might have read my review on The California Wine Club. For my 2nd review, the California Wine Club sent me two bottles of Dan Gehre Wines, a white (Chenin Blanc) and a red (Merlot). I knew these wines would go great with our annual appetizer and cookie party, so I volunteered to bring the wines. The funny thing was, that by the time, I got in the house, greeted everyone, and made it back to the kitchen the Chenin Blanc was gone. I had to go and borrow a taste from a friend.
Everyone seem to really like the The Dan Gehrs Chenin Blanc. I asked most of of the people who tried it to give me their feedback. People said it was a bit dry but had a nice balance of flavors. Description:
An early 2011 bottling has captured and full vitality of this classic variety, vineyard and vintage with lovely aromas of honey and flowers wedded to complex flavors of fresh pears and quince.
The Merlot was a nice dry wine. Perfect with our appetizers and enjoyed by everyone at the party.
The in-blending of Malbec and Cabernet Franc in the above percentages adds the complexity of cranberry and blueberry respectively to the ripe, black cherry and tanned leather fragrance typical of Merlot. Delicious, soft, lip-smacking tannins give length and structure to the finish.
Overall, I was once again very pleased with my selection of wines from the California Wine Company.
