Grab Your Back Pack…We’re Late for the Bus!

August 27, 2010 By Melanie

Wow! Tomorrow marks the end of Eph’s first official week of kindergarten. I really can’t believe that not only is he in kindergarten but that the first week is already done and over.  It just seems like he was just a baby, then a toddler, then a preschooler.  Where does the time go?

Ephraim was so excited to start school and I am so thankful for his eagerness to learn.  He loves making new friends and he is always eager to get out and try new things.  I tried my best to come up with some creative plan for the first day of school but in the end, it was just a rush of breakfast, dressing, hair brushing, teeth brushing and back pack grabbing.  We stopped for quickie picture by the pond and off we went to the bus stop.  Since Eph road the bus for preschool neither one of us got that emotional. He was so excited that he almost leaped like super man from the sidewalk to the bus.

He stopped for a wave and loud goodbye and off he went to find a seat.  I said a quick prayer and walked home.

The day passed quickly but I missed my little man and so did his sister. She kept standing at the back door saying Bubbe and signing “school” over and over.  She has never really been apart from him before.  He had afternoon preschool so it was always during her nap and she was none the wiser that he had been gone.

When I went to get him, I surprised myself at how choked up I felt seeing the bus turn the corner. My little man had been gone all day, he experienced all kinds of new things that I had not been a part of.  As the bus pulled closer the tears welled up. I saw his little blond head pop up over the seat. He looked anxiously out the window at me and then came bounding down the steps of that bus with the brightest face of accomplishment I had ever seen.  I let a tear fall…because right then, in front of my eyes, my baby grew up.  It was only 7 hours but it felt like a lifetime.

So tomorrow is the end of the week…and off we will rush to catch the bus. I hope I don’t blink and he comes back a highschooler.

thanks for following me, I love your little cute blog, so sunshiney!
I understand completely about your little on going to Kindergarten. My boy hit first grade & I decided this year, he could ride the bus to and from school. It was a big chance for the both of us.

Your comment was so sweet. It made me cry reading about your friend and her father. What an amazing act of forgiveness on her part. Such an inspiration to me to forgive someone I may be harboring resentment towards.
*I am now following you too and wanted you to know I am excited to learn the different signs you will be teaching. Clara is at an age where she will really be able to start communicating that way.
