Back to School with Tiny Prints

August 23, 2011 By Melanie

As a mom there is nothing more exhilarating than watching your little ones meet their next important milestone in life. In our house, each new school year is met with the same level of excitement as the last. In order to prepare the school year we always make the extra effort to have a special day for our kids.

With only my son in school, it is easy to schedule one day that the two of us can head out to get his school supplies, have lunch and get some shopping done. I always have special little surprise treats planned.

This year, Eph decided that his “special” day would start out at Red Robin (his favorite restaurant) where he got to have both a root beer and a chocolate milk shake. After that we headed out to the store to pick out some new back to school clothes. Normally we are super thrifty but I know there is always that one special item that a kid wants – that isn’t on the sale rack. For us this year it was a Tony Hawk Hoodie. You should have seen those big old eyes just staring at me, telling me “how cool” he will look wearing the jacket.

After our exhausting trip to the store (you try getting your ADHD kid to try to 10 pairs of pants), we were off to the golden arches for yet another treat (yes, my kids can have Mickey D’s every once in while.) Once we had our sugar fill up we headed over to get our school supplies and a lunch box.  I don’t know about you, but having just that perfect lunch box to pop in a sweet note really makes a difference.

Once we were done with all of our errands, we headed home but not before we picked up a “Back to School” dinner! Who couldn’t resist a little pizza? Once home, we spent time going over our school plans and preparing for the first day of first grade!
