2011 Giving Thanks Challenge – Day 28, My Job

November 29, 2011 By Melanie

Today I am giving thanks for my wonderful job. For those of you who might not know, I am a full time certified sign language interpreter. I have a B.A. and a Masters in this rockin’ field and have been working professionally since I graduated from Gallaudet University in 1999.

I have worked in various positions including government, medical, and mental health. I have taught some really awesome students at our local Interpreter Training Program. For the past two years I have been working as a Video Relay Interpreter. I have also served on our state and national boards.

I love the gift that I have been given to communicate with my hands, to bridge worlds that would otherwise be left separate.  I am thankful for my clients that throughout the years have allowed me to be their voice. I am passionate about interpreters providing good quality services and I am grateful for all my fabulous co-workers. Not many people have a job as interesting and unique as mine.

It sounds like an amazing and fulfilling occupation. I’m sure you’re very good at it, too.
